How to increase computer speed

How to Increase computer speed? Every PC user asks this question. It’s inevitable that all computers will experience slower speeds at some point. With some minor adjustments you may speed up your computer performance. 

There are several ways you can improve computer speed and its overall performance. I use many of these to keep my machine faster, if you are facing slower PC speed, these tips will help you to make it faster:

1.   Limit the programs at startup

2.  Startup Configuration

3.  Use Disk Cleanup 

4.  Defragmentation  

5.  Turn off Visual Effects

6.  Remove Temporary Files 

Limit the programs at startup 

When you start up your PC, many other programs start along with your operating system. Usually you don’t need to start all of these programs at start. Disabling unnecessary startup programs makes significant impact on your system startup speed and increase computer speed.

When you install any program, it may add to your start up program list, so remove unnecessary startup programs. It will improve your PC performance. If you want to Make computer start faster, it is recommended to keep soft-wares as minimum as possible. 

 

Startup Configuration

1. To do this, click on the Windows/Start button and type “RUN” in search box. Or just press Windows + R to do this task.

2. In RUN Window, typed “msconfig” into the box and click OK.

3. In System configuration window, click on “StartUp” Tab.

4. You will see some unwanted program which are not required at startup, uncheck these programs and click OK.

5. Now in System configuration window, click on “services” Tab and uncheck irrelevant services.

6. Computer will ask you to restart computer to effects these changes. 

 

Use Disk Cleanup to clean up you harddisk

Unnecessary files on your hard disk take up disk space and can slow down your computer. Disk Cleanup removes temporary files, empties the Recycle Bin, and removes a variety of system files and other items that you no longer need. By taking following steps you may cleanup your hard drive:

1. Click on Computer.

2. Then right click on “C Drive” and click on "Properties".

3. In Properties Windows click on Disk Cleanup Tab.

4. Next windows will appear. Here you may select files that you want to be deleted and click on OK.

5. Your unwanted files will be deleted and clear up some space.

Defragment Your Hard Disk

Defragmentation is a term used to describe the process of reorganizing a hard drive's data to help increase the proficiency of accessing the data and prevent file fragmentation. By organizing the data on the hard drive, it can decrease the time it takes to run a program and open files on a hard disk drive. To do the Disc Defragmentation you may take following steps:

1. Click on Computer.

2. Then right click on “C Drive” and click on properties.

3. In Properties Windows click on TOOL Tab.

4. In Defragmentation click on “Defragmentation Now”

5. You may defragment any disk. Select Disc or Discs you want and click “Defragment Disk”.
6. Defragmentation is a lengthy process and consumes several minutes to complete depending on your computer speed. 

Turn off Visual Effects

If Windows is running slowly, you can turn off visual effects to speed up your computer, especially on older machines. It comes down to appearance, however enhance computer speed. If your PC is fast enough, you don't turn off visual effects, but if your computer is running slowly, it can be useful.

To adjust all visual effects for best performance: 
 
1. Open Control Panel by clicking the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel.

2. In the Search box, type Adjust visual effects and ENTERED.

3. “Performance Options” window will appear.

4. Click the Visual Effects Tab, here you will see four options:
  • Let windows choose what’s best for my computer
  • Adjust for best appearance
  • Adjust for best performance
  • Custom
5. Click Adjust for best performance, and then click OK. (For a less drastic option, select Let Windows choose what’s best for my computer.)

6. After this setting your computer will run faster, however graphics effects comes down.

(NOTE: In future this setting may be change again for better quality of picture and videos) 
 

Remove Temporary Files

During the use of computer, system creates some temporary files. These files takes space of hard drive and can slow down your computer speed. To remove these temporary files you may take following steps:

1. To do this, click on the Windows/Start button and type “RUN” in search box. Or just press Windows + R to do this task.


2. In RUN Window, typed “%temp%” (without quotes) and click on OK.

3. Some Temporary files will appear, select these files and delete.

4. You may experience that some files not deleted, skip these files. Your task has been completed.

Remove Apps Data files

1. To do this, click on the Windows/Start button and type “RUN” in search box. Or just press Windows + R to do this task.


2. In RUN Window, typed “%Appdata%” and click on OK.

3. Some App data appear, delete these files and folders.

I hope after doing above steps your system speed will increase significantly. If no change take place, you may think new system or some new hardware like RAM.
